"Sugar's Moon" Painting on Exhibit at Lunar Boy Gallery

There’s a painting at Lunar Boy Gallery, at 1133 Commercial Street in Astoria, which occupies a special place in the hearts of those who work, volunteer or make regular visits at the Clatsop County Animal Shelter. It’s called “Sugar’s Moon” and was painted by local artist, Angel Burns.
The painting’s subject, Sugar, is a female pit bull terrier who has been the office mascot at the Shelter for a while now. Everyone loves her. She lies on a large doggie bed behind the front desk when the Shelter’s open to the public—from noon to 4 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. She completely won over Burns who regularly walks dogs regularly at the Shelter. Sugar is her personal favorite, however, which is how the painting, “Sugar’s Moon” came to be.
Burns became interested in art at an early age; her mother is an artist. She studied art for a while at the Art Institute in Seattle and with local artist, Julie Bay. “Sugar’s Moon” was done using acrylics. Its magical quality evokes Sugar’s dreams for a good life in a new home yet to come. All proceeds from the sale of the painting will go Clatsop Animal Assistance and help dogs and cats temporarily housed at the Animal Shelter. For more information about the painting, contact Deborah Starr at Lunar Boy Gallery at  503-325-1566 .
Sugar is three years old and a real beauty. Her only physical flaw is her ears. When she was younger someone trimmed her ears down with scissors to “make her look tough.” Their ragged look, unfortunately, has put off potential adopters who can’t seem to see beyond that and recognize what a marvelous creature she is—friendly, playful and very much in need of a good home with people who’ll love and care for her. She’s available for adoption and is good with most other dogs and people. For more information on adopting this wonderful animal, call the Animal Shelter at the number shown below.
